House on the Rock, Wisconsin, USA: mind-blowing, inspiring, endlessly entertaining.
We made it back to Finland safely! Our trip of a lifetime is now officially over. We’ve driven through Iceland, the northern states of the USA and many places in Canada. Unbelievable sceneries, amazing experiences, laughter and tears, long days after another, lovely people… and memories we get to keep forever.
Even though being on the road for two months straight is such a fantastic experience, we’ve already discussed maybe keeping it shorter from now on. Or at least taking it a bit easier with the schedule and all. We’re honestly getting too old for this! Traveling tired, with aching muscles, just isn’t as much fun as one could imagine…
We’ve got a long list of blog posts we need to write up and a ton of photos we need to edit, but first we’ll probably get a little rest just to gain our magical blogger powers back. We’re talking three day long naps or something. Like we’ve said before, our original plan was to write stories on the road, as we go, but that turned out to be a too ambitious of a plan. Our long, action packed days and hours of blogging work just simply don’t mix!
Sure, we kept our Instagram, Twitter and Facebook quite up to date, but there’s more that needs to be done when you’re doing some actual writing. So, that’s next on our schedule. And we finally have a fast, working wifi to do it too! Yay!
Right now, we’re just incredibly sad that the trip is over, but thankful that we had the chance to do it in the first place. We have so many people to thank, too.
First of all, biggest thanks to Icelandair. It was their planes that flew us first to Reykjavik for a fantastic, beautiful Iceland stopover, then over to Boston to the beginning of our North America roadtrip and then back from Seattle, where we returned our rental car after practically living in it for seven weeks.
We can very warmly recommend both the stopover Iceland service (brilliant!) and many of the destinations they have in North America. Stunning cities, exciting adventures… we can’t wait to share all our experiences with you guys!
We’d also love to send our love to the state of Minnesota and the shoppers’ paradise Mall of America. We spent a week exploring the beautiful (and very Finnish!) state and met some of the nicest people ever. And we didn’t go hungry during that week… so much good food! At the Mall of America we rode rollercoasters, tried their indoors zipline and of course, browsed their endless shops and restaurants.
Big thanks to all the hotels and Airbnb hosts in all the different cities, the Calgary International Film Festival, Tourism Vancouver, Visit Calgary, Sixt Iceland and the most amazing House on the Rock in Wisconsin. You’ve been such a big part of this trip and we have nothing but good things to say about you all!
If we only could, we’d send handwritten thank you notes and a hundred roses to the actors and creatives of Supernatural, who gave such a warm welcome to two enthusiastic fans from Finland; to the guys in Detroit who spend their days fixing beautiful old houses and granted us special access to Adam’s house from Only Lovers Left Alive; to the kind sheriff who made sure we got in to the court house in Cleveland on a Sunday night to do our thing; to about two dozen other complete strangers who went out of their way to help us out along the way.
Right, this is beginning to sound like an Oscar speech, isn’t it? Maybe it’s time to let the orchestra play the wrap it up tune and get some rest before getting back to work…
Thank you, thank you, thank you. We really are the lucky ones, aren’t we?
