The Crown filming location in London: Southwark Cathedral
I marathoned through Netflix’s The Crown just days before our trip to London in November 2016 and completely fell in love with the show. During that trip, we made an appearance as panelists at the International Screen Tourism Conference and talked to a lot of interesting tourism professionals from different countries. But when a nice lady introduced herself to us, told us she was from from the Southwark Cathedral, one of The Crown filming locations in London, we got super excited.
We headed over for a quick visit the very next day and got a few fantastic sceneframes. Here’s the very first one of them.
We were prepared to just walk into (what we thought was) a small cathedral and snap a few photos, but we were wrong. What seemed like one of the smaller The Crown filming locations on the show turned out to be a massive, beautiful cathedral. So we ended up doing a proper tour and investigating all the beautiful details and decorations.
We did a live video too showing some of the space (and a silly Supernatural related surprise in the end!), which you can view on our Facebook page here.
Visiting the Cathedral is easy and free. A photo permit can be bought for £1 at the door. You’ll find the opening times and other information on the Cathedral’s website along with a 360 tour. It’s absolutely worth the trip even if you haven’t seen The Crown, but of course, we recommend checking out the show too as it is super stunning.
Our advent calendar will feature movie & TV sceneframes and short stories from filming locations we’ve visited during our Fangirl Quest years. You can follow the calendar by checking back in the Advent Calendar tag and check out all the movie locations in this handy map, updated as we go!
