One of the most anticipated movies of 2019 didn’t disappoint. We loved every second of Captain Marvel: the incredible lovable characters, the pace and the rhythm, the tear-jerking tributes to Stan Lee and the subtle, yet powerful feminism hidden in several scenes and subtle little moments.
We haven’t yet visited any of the Captain Marvel filming locations, but there’s a good possibility of us getting to at least one or two quite soon. We’ll post about those separately!
But since we are a film tourism blog, we thought we’d take a quick look at some of Captain Marvel’s filming locations already! We can complete this list as we do a little more research and maybe even get some sceneframing done to make it our own!
The very Top Gun style, awesome air force base scenes were filmed at Edwards Air Force Base in Kern County, South California.
Variety posted a behind the scenes photo from Nellis Air Force Base, where Brie Larson shadowed Brigadier General Jeannie Leavitt, 57th Wing Commander for her iconic superhero role.
Downtown Los Angeles is heavily featured in the beginning of Captain Marvel. Aside from Carol Danvers herself, we can see Nick Fury and the young Agent Phil Coulson on various locations including a small strip mall in Simi Valley.
Surprisingly, planet Torfa isn’t very far from the Blockbuster Video shop Danvers crashes into: apparently, a quarry off Bennett Rd in Simi Valley was used to film those planet-y bits.
Other LA filming locations include the Douglas metro station and the 7th Street / Metro Center Station.
Where it all started… the crash site of the plane was staged at the shores of Shaver Lake outside Fresno in the Sierra National Forest. Judging by our little curious Google street view driveby, this location seems to be quite easily accessible and a lovely place for a picnic or a hike, too.
The flashback scenes of a carnival were filmed at Jim Hall Racing Club in Oxnard.
According to Vcstar.com, “Oxnard Assistant City Manager Jesus Nava told the City Council that a film crew of 150 people with approximately 135 extras will be in town to shoot a film set in 1986 starring Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson.”
It was widely reported that the last two weeks of the Captain Marvel filming took place in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. However, we haven’t yet tracked down any specific addresses or areas in the cities. We’re working on it though!
If you have a clue or better yet, witnessed some of the filming taking place when it did, pleeeeeease contact us and let us know! :)
Some of the sets were built at Sony Studios in Culver City.
This post will be updated with more location details, photos & tips as we find out more and do our research. If you have any information, tips & links, please leave a message below!
